Fast Class
Description
Open to Grade(s): 9-12
Prerequisite : Approval from FAST Staff
FAST which is an acronym for Foster Academic Success Today, is offered to students in our regular education program to receive academic assistance. The goal of FAST is to help students achieve academic success. Students will work to gain study skills necessary to succeed in high school course work. They will also receive individual student/teacher monitoring of homework with necessary assistance when needed. Students will also be assisted in preparation for tests and projects.
Students who assert genuine effort will be able to earn one-eighth elective credit towards graduation for each semester of FAST Class. They will be reassigned to one of our SCHS certified teachers during their study hall period.
Contract
Requirements
This class is for studying - bring books and work everyday.
- Bring a planner with assignments filled out
- Be on time to class / no tardies
- Display appropriate behavior
- Study! Sleeping or slacking off is not tolerated.
Grades will be checked weekly - and if a student has any missing assignments they will be required to complete them.
Tardies
You must be IN the classroom BEFORE the bell begins to ring. The determination of this will be at the discretion of the FAST Class teacher. Tardies accumulate over an entire semester. On the third tardy, a letter will be sent home indicating a problem with getting to class on time. A referral will be sent to the main office on the fourth tardy. Refer to your handbooks for severe tardies.
Discipline
This section refers to situations such as, but not limited to, disrupting other students, being loud, verbally abusive, argumentative, or insubordinate in any way.
- First infraction - Verbal warning
- Second infraction - Mediation essay; referral to counselor
- Third infraction - Phone call home; referral to counselor
- Fourth infraction - Removal from Fast Class
Effort
This section refers to students working and using FAST Class in the way it was intended. Students must come to class prepared to work. Just a reminder, sleeping is NOT working; therefore it is NOT permitted. Students must bring their supplies to class each day (i.e., planner, binders, iPad, pen/pencil, etc.).
- First infraction - Verbal warning
- Second infraction - Phone call home; referral to counselor
- Third infraction - Student will be sent back to study hall
