Introduction to Construction

  This semester long course provides experiences related to the assembly, installation, and maintenance of residential building and construction. Planned learning activities will allow students to become knowledgeable to fundamental principles and methods associated with building trades. Knowledge obtained from this course gives  students a construction foundation that enables them to  attempt small do-it-yourself projects around home or prepares them for more training that may lead to construction related occupations. Instruction for this course may include the following:

* Tool safety

* Tool operation
* Elevation, layout and grade 

* Framing (Floor, wall, and roof) 

* Interior/exterior finish

* Rough wiring

* Rough plumbing
* Landscaping

Construction 1 & 2

This is a year long, two period class that builds on previous learned knowledge and experiences that are presented in the Introduction to Construction course. The focus of this class is more project oriented and job specific regarding construction. Students will be trained in areas of  building trades that equip them for basic construction related skills. These skills make students more conducive for employment in construction occupations. Furthermore, this course can be offered as dual credit with Kaskaskia College depending on the units covered.
